Nairobi National Park is one of the national parks in Kenya which was created in the year 1946. It was the first Kenyan national park. It is a unique ecosystem being the only protected place in Africa and a national park that's close to the city. It is about 7 km from the CBD-Central Business District in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. The wildlife and the metropolis is separated by an electric fence. The Maasai community was removed from the land to facilitate the conservation and the protection of the wildlife. The vegetation within the park consists of open savannah and plains with forests, covered by acacia and the riverine environment.
Nairobi National Park is located at the outskirts of the Nairobi business district towards the south. It is 7 km away from the Nairobi business district. The park only has the sounds of nature, making it a very conducive environment for locals and guests to enjoy the place peacefully.
It was recently recognized and designated as rhino sanctuary when more than 50 rhinos were moved to the park from remote parks scattered around the country. The Nairobi National Park consists of more than 100 species of mammals and birds. The river side within the park is the place where most of the zebras can be found. The park is also known for its long, short, wild flowers that are within the park. The animals in the park include flamingos, pelicans, hippos, rhino reedbucks, giraffes, helmeted guineas, ostriches, and over 400 other bird species.
The site has the best picnic sites, which is one of the advantages of this park. Other facilities include three campsites and some hiking trails. It is also located next to the city where a variety of facilities are accessible including accommodations, hospitals, and restaurants.
The Nairobi National Park is very accessible when it comes to transportation since it is just some few kilometers from the busy city. The means of transport include matatus which are both shared minibuses and taxis, buses and trains. Matatus cover a wide geographical area within and outside the city. Buses that offer services in Nairobi provide good alternatives as they serve as drop off and pick up points for passengers. Walking in Nairobi is not advisable due to various safety issues. Both of these transport means enable you to reach the park.
