The Nairobi Arboretum Park: Best Place to Spend a day

Nairobi Arboretum Park is set 3.5 km from the CBD-Central Business District. It occupies an area of 30 hectares of land. Established in the year 1907, the Arboretum is the main attraction and destination to major exotic tree species that any human would like to discover. Some of these trees’ origins are well documented and one can get a copy of each. The park was established by Mr. Battiscombe who was by that time the Deputy Conservator of the forests. In addition to those species, Mr. Gardner who was the Chief Conservator did some research and collected other indigenous trees and shrubs from various parts of the world and introduced them to the park. The park is currently hosting more than 290 species of indigenous tree species. More than 150 birds’ species call this park home. Other animals such as monkeys and chimpanzees are found here.

The Butterfly Species in the Park

Butterflies are known to be humble and beautiful as they fly in the air. Some of the butterfly species that can be traced at Nairobi Arboretum include, mother of pearl, white-barred butterfly, blue-spotted and the African migrant. This is the best place for a picnic, whether with friends or family members.

Trees’ Species

For most of us who love biology and understanding nature, the park will teach you a lot. Various tree’s species you never knew their origin are located here. Some of the indigenous trees that can be found here include African olive, craibia brownie and milletia dura. You will have a chance to walk all over the green park full of trees and cool environment. A well guided tour all over the location will leave you excited as visitors get the best of the Kenyan wildlife.

Main Activities

Some of the best outdoor activities that guest will receive include hiking and trekking. Well defined trekking routes have been created for all visitors and instructors are always up to the task to provide you with the best of this wonderful experience. Hiking is done as a group. Starting at one point of the park, visitors are advised on the route to use and what they can do and can't do while hiking. All walking trails are safe and easy to use.

Transport

The Arboretum is easily accessible from the Nairobi. Its unique setting and location has made it a good destination for many visitors who tours Nairobi. You can access the park by a taxi or the use of public buses. It should take you at most 10 minutes from Kencom Bus Station to the park. Nairobi Arboretum is opened daily from 8AM to 6PM in the evening. Entrance fees are 10 USD for residents and 20 USD for foreigners.
